Facebook vs. Website: Which Is Better for School?

Social media is getting more and more popular… As well as the opinion that it can be used instead of a website. But these are totally different things.

Let’s analyze this table to see why.

School’s Facebook Page School’s website
AUDIENCE Not everyone has a Facebook profile or spends time there. Pupils might use TikTok, parents might be on Instagram etc. Everyone who has the internet can visit your website and find all the info they need.
INFORMATION You can’t organize all the info in a smart and convenient way on Facebook. If your website is designed professionally, all the info will be organized and accessible.
OWNERSHIP Facebook is owned by Meta. One day they can change the platform entirely or close your profile. You own your website, so you make decisions.
SYSTEMS You can’t integrate all the necessary systems with Facebook, you’ll need something more sooner or later. You can integrate all kinds of systems with your website to save your employees time.
PURPOSE Facebook is made for news sharing, fun and interactive content conversations etc. Your website is created to provide information about your institution, activities, admissions, schedules etc.

We don’t want to scare you, but data protection and GDPR is also important. Should you really post tons of photos of kids online?

P.S. When we say school, we mean everyone, primary school and kindergartens included.
